Community Power Branding and Poster Design
In Spring and Summer of 2023, The Vale in Mossley were seeking to find out how to harness the power of water. They requested a brand and poster design for the programme.
Branding
We wanted to create a brand identity that was modern and contemporary, rather than something historic or traditional like water mills. The aim was to create a visual identity that would appeal to a wider demographic while still representing the values of the program.
To achieve this, We used The Vale’s existing font to create a link between the program and its parent brand.
The chosen symbol is a stylised droplet, which represents the program’s focus on water as a source of power. The droplet is depicted using smooth and curved lines, which give it a sense of movement and fluidity. The colour palette used is primarily blue, representing water, but also incorporates yellow to evoke a sense energy.
Water and power are the two key visual elements that are used to tie the brand identity together. Water is a fundamental part of the program’s mission, and the symbol effectively captures this. Power is also an essential aspect of the program.
In summary, the brand identity for ‘Community Power’ is designed to be modern, dynamic, and easily recognisable. The use of The Vale font creates a strong link between the program and its parent brand, while the alternative font and symbol convey the program’s mission and values in a contemporary and engaging way.
Poster
The poster design captures the essence of the spring-summer season in Mossley while emphasising renewable energy is to create a visual representation of the town’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness. Rather than showcasing literal images of Mossley’s landscape and water mills the design focuses on using uplifting colours and an abstract scene to evoke the feeling of the season and local area.
The use of bright and vibrant colours such as yellow, green, and blue, are reminiscent of the season, and they communicate a sense of growth, renewal, and vitality, which are all characteristic of spring and summer. These colours also represent a commitment to sustainability as they are commonly associated with renewable energy.
The design communicates a powerful message of eco-friendliness and sustainability while evoking the feeling of the season, making it a compelling and engaging visual representation of Mossley’s values and aspirations.
